My First Design Job

On a lazy weekend morning in October 2020, I was flipping through the regional newspaper’s classified column in my city like a detective searching for clues. And then my eyes landed on a job ad that made my heart do a little happy dance. It said they needed a graphic designer who could rock Photoshop, type like a pro, and even conquer Excel.

Now, let me give you a bit of background. I had recently fallen victim to the infamous COVID-19 job massacre, losing my gig as a data entry operator at a college. But hey, I’m not one to wallow in self-pity!

in a college doing data entry stuff, before coming into the design profession.

When I was in my first year of graduation, I decided to take a diploma course in desktop publishing. That’s when I learned trio of Photoshop, Corel Draw, and Page Maker, although I don’t use Corel Draw and Pagemaker now. It was like finding a secret treasure chest filled with creative tools!

So, you can imagine my excitement when this job opportunity came knocking on my door, promising to rescue me from the shackles of measly paychecks. I mean, seriously, as a data entry operator, I was practically rolling in dough with a whopping 7500 rupees per month. 🙄

The image that accompanied here in this article’s featured image was like a sneak peek into the world of office awesomeness. I could practically see myself sitting at that desk, slaying Excel spreadsheets like a ninja while designing fancy banners, product images, and witty product descriptions for an e-commerce company in Warsaw, Poland called IndiaFresh, and its website was indiafresh.eu; which is not available online right now. I don’t know what happened to it. And just for kicks, I even ventured into basic motion graphics.

I know that those are not that great, I can do much better than that. But still, it was really fun playing with premiere pro and learning the tool. I was literally working for this one company not like now, like working in an agency for multiple companies.

Yeah, I whipped those up after learning Premiere Pro in, like, a week. Who needs superhero powers when you have a knack for learning things at the speed of light? Time, my friends, is my secret weapon, and I spend it wisely. Okay, maybe not all the time—I mean, who doesn’t enjoy binge-watching their favourite OTT shows or indulging in evening friends’ time? But most of the time, I’m all about personal and professional growth. Gotta hustle, right?

But let’s get back on track. This job was like a launchpad to infinity and beyond. I started my learning journey by following gurus like Rajeev Mehta sir and GFX Mentor sir on YouTube, along with some talented foreign YouTubers who were kind enough to share their wisdom for free. Yes, free knowledge is a thing, my friends. Mind-blowing, I know.

Time flew by like a hyperactive hummingbird on caffeine, and before I knew it, I stumbled upon an even better offer—a job at Digiframe Marketing Solutions, where I’m working right now. It was like hitting the jackpot! And here I am, living the dream, soaking up the graphic design glory like a boss.

Sure, I’m not an active freelance designer just yet, but mark my words, it’s on my to-do list. It’s like that little itch that just won’t go away, nagging at me until I scratch it. And when I do, who knows what kind of epic adventures await me?

So, my dear readers, I hope you’ve enjoyed today’s rollercoaster ride of my life. If you want to keep up with my escapades, make sure to subscribe to my website’s notifications. And hey, don’t forget to stalk me on LinkedIn and Twitter. Trust me, it’ll be a wild, hilarious, and sometimes downright bizarre journey that you won’t want to miss.

If you need any help in your personal branding or digital marketing projects don’t forget that I’m just a DM away!

Jai Hind.
